Home Schooling

Home schooling (homeschooling) is the practice of educating school-aged children at home primarily by parents or guardians rather than in a traditional public or private school. It's a growing educational movement practiced in all 50 U.S. states and many countries worldwide.

Pros and Cons of Homeschooling Homeschooling, as an effective educational program, has undergone numerous debates. In fact, opinions are equally divided between the pros and the cons. Homeschooling, indeed, offers benefits for the child but like many things, there are also some downsides to implementing the program.

During those times, the child's education was limited to how much their parents can teach them. That is why during the 19th century, with all the progress going on all over the world, it has been realized that the government should have to take the responsibility of providing education for its growing population.

Some home school statistics show that a number of home school students scored as many as thirty percentile points higher than national public school averages. Some experts don't even see statistical differences in terms of academic achievement between home school students taught by parents with less formal education and those students being taught by parents that have acquired higher formal education.

The advantage of institutionalized schooling is the amount of time parents get liberated to spend on their career while their children get the substantial education they pay for. Home schooling on the other hand, requires the entire time of parent participation, which is a great career sacrifice in exchange of personally educating a child.

With the homeschool program, you will have to do all the dirty work. You will be the one who will to do all the lectures and all the checking of worksheets. You will also have to create your own curriculum, a set of lessons that you feel will be appropriate for your child. Because of the time that it will consume, most parents decide to quit their jobs and concentrate more on teaching their child.

Although its effectiveness has not yet been proven conclusively, there are sectors that champion homeschooling because it provides a much more flexible process that can be adapted to a child s learning capability. For now, most experts agree that homeschool can be the best alternative for students who cannot cope with ordinary school setting.
