Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry is the branch of dentistry focused on improving the appearance of your teeth, gums, and overall smile rather than just treating dental disease or restoring function. It combines art and science to help people achieve a more balanced, symmetrical, and aesthetically pleasing smile.

They will probably just need to do some minor cleaning and some whitening procedures to make their smiles whiter and brighter. They would probably not even need any work at all. Usually, people who go to cosmetic dentists require major work and reconstruction on their teeth. These are the people who have too many teeth or those with twisted teeth or gaps.

We all know that in order to avoid further heartbreak and pain in the future, we must regularly and zealously go to our dentists every year and have our teeth checked and cleaned. But for some people, they need to do more than just take care of their teeth. They need to make sure that they have a beautiful smile.

The irony is that it is the most readily available among all dental procedures and that home-use bleaching kits are easily accessible in drug stores. In the U.S., the cost of teeth whitening done in a dental clinic is around $650 per visit. Take-home whitening kits from drugstores can be had for $100 up to $400.

But with cosmetic dentistry, the emphasis is different. Like cosmetic surgery, the emphasis is on the way we appear to other people. Cosmetic dentistry do not just take care of the health of our teeth, it also takes care of the way it looks. This means that the procedures that patients of cosmetic dentistry have to go through do not just involve one or two simple procedures like cleaning and extraction, it might also involve whitening of the teeth and putting braces.

The treatment works much like those done with dental inlays (two sessions, impression-making in the first and permanent placement in the second). They are also created from tooth-colored materials that make them almost undetectable to the naked eye. Onlays help conserve more tooth structure because they require minimal removal of tooth surface during the bonding process.

You need lots of vitamin C to speed up the recovery process and to make sure that you fight off any infections if there is. Boosting the immune system is important at this point. The same goes with putting in braces because your teeth will be moving and you need a strong body for it to cooperate with you.
